The undergraduate internship program in the school provides students with an opportunity to gain experience working in an external organization.
The purpose of this course is to provide the student with supervised research experience in a chemical or chemical-related organization. This experience should expose the student to research and/or development in the chemical profession. The internship experience must be at an approved site.
Objectives that each student must, at a minimum, accomplish are:
- To become familiar with the organizational structure of the unit or agency, including the role and function of staff
- To become familiar with the philosophy, mission, and goals of the unit or agency
- To become aware of unit or agency standards that ensures a safe working environment
- To perform supervised research per objectives defined by the unit or agency
Students interested in an internship can either self-identify an opportunity or work with the GT Division of Professional Practice to locate an internship. Students can schedule a meeting with an internship advisor via P2D2 www.p2d2.gatech.edu.
The internship may be performed for course credit or pay (permit required).
For students interested in graduate studies and/or a long-term career in research, chemistry and biochemistry students may also want to consider the research option under the B.S. in Chemistry or B.S. in Biochemistry.
Internship Course Requirements:
- To initiate the internship, the student must complete an Undergraduate Internship Course Approval form including a brief description of the scope of work proposed, the organization name, and the site for the proposed research.
