Travel funds are available for Chemistry and Biochemistry majors to present their research at a conference. Requests for funding must be initiated more than 30 days prior to the departure date for travel.
Process
A. First apply for a President’s Undergraduate Research Awards (PURA) grant. The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program competitively funds individual requests by a student/faculty teams to support undergraduate student involvement in faculty research. Students may apply for $1,500 (max) salary awards or $1,000 (max) travel awards. Students are eligible for only one successful salary award per academic year but may apply for travel awards within the same academic year. Please note any application deadlines for PURA grants.
B. If not PURA funded, submit a request to Dr. Angus Wilkinson, Professor and Associate Chair of Undergraduate Studies. Dr. Wilkinson oversees the distribution of awards. Funding of up to $250 per trip is available. Preference is given to individuals accepted to present a poster or oral presentation. Up to 10 individuals per academic year may be awarded travel funds, as funds are available.

D. Your research group’s faculty support coordinator (FSC) can help with questions and some of the related travel forms. The travel request must include the following documents:
Chemistry Pre-Approval Required Documents
1) A Travel Authority Request; your FSC can assist with this. 2) Copy of conference brochure showing registration fees 3) Verification of travel-related costs (airfare, hotel cost and tax, etc.) 4) Copy of acceptance letter or conference brochure/schedule verifying conference participation
Chemistry Post-Travel Required Documents
Upon returning from your trip, you will need to submit a Travel Expense Statement. Your FSC can assist with this.
