The School of Chemistry and Biochemistry is located close to the heart of Atlanta and has programs leading to B.S. Chemistry, B.S. Biochemistry, M.S. and Ph.D degrees. We currently have more than 300 undergraduate majors and ~240 graduate students enrolled. Chemistry has a long history at Georgia Tech; a bachelor's degree was first offered in 1906 and we were one of the first schools to offer a PhD degree program. Our mission encompasses chemical and biochemical education in a broad sense, the generation of new knowledge and technology, and service to the scientific community and the public at large. In 2012, the ongoing research activities of our academic faculty, graduate students and PhD researchers were supported by ~$25 million in external, primarily federal, funds. This work makes use of research laboratories and support services spread among several modern buildings on campus.
